essential oils
I use primarily Plant Therapy Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils. I have found their quality to be wonderful and their prices don't break the bank. I also greatly appreciate Plant Therapy's commitment to child safety when dealing with essential oils. Their bottles are clearly labeled with a "kid safe" logo for those oils appropriate for children ages 2+. They also make wonderful synergies for children that address common ailments, all using child appropriate oils.
You'll notice that the majority of my products range from a 1%-2% dilution. This is a safe range for regular daily use for adults. Some products – such as the Itch•B•Gone roll-on – have a higher dilution because the topical treatment is meant for a small area of skin to offer relief from a specific/isolated ailment (like a bug bite). I do my best to clearly label each product with the oil percentage and what age range the product is intended for.
As a general rule-of-thumb, when using oils (even "safe" oils like Lavender) on children under the age of 2. A dilution of .25% or 1 drop/Tbsp of carrier oil (which is approximately a .33% dilution) is recommended. I highly recommend the website Learning About EOs for extensive information about essential oil use and safety. Their "Essential Oils and Children" article contains a wealth of knowledge about essential oil usage, safety and age guidelines for an extensive list of oils. I highly recommend checking it out!
